From November 17th to January 17th, the historical city of Coimbra (Portugal) will be hosting the world’s largest art exhibition on Surrealist art, a major event presented by the Portuguese surrealist painter Santiago Ribeiro, that will gather the work of 112 of the world’s leading surrealist artists from 48 different countries.
The multicultural nature of the show, makes it a unique and enriching opportunity to discover and experience the diversity of Surrealist art in the world, and to reflect on core values such as freedom, creativity, love and hope, which are expressed through each artist’s unique perception.
This isn’t Ribeiro’s first time as Surrealist art ambassador; he has been promoting the Surrealism of the 21st Century for the last 8 years, through exhibitions in worldwide locations, such as Berlin, Moscow, Dallas, Los Angeles, Mississippi, Warsaw, Nantes, Paris, Florence, Madrid, Granada, Barcelona, Lisbon, Belgrade, Montenegro, Romania, Japan, Taiwan and Brazil.
As part of the marketing campaign carried out for this event, and also with the aim to bring art to people on the streets, the Portuguese artist chose the billboards on one of the world’s busiest pedestrian areas, Times Square in New York, to showcase some of his own work included on the Surrealist Now exhibition.
The Surrealist Now exhibition’s main venues will be the Coimbra House Culture, the Chiado Building Gallery and the Municipal Museum of Coimbra. But that’s not all! The art show will also happen outdoors, showcasing works including paintings, digital art, photography and sculpture on different monuments and public spaces all throughout Portugal.
