Biography

Federica Filippelli was born in Solothurn, Switzerland. She currently lives and works in Lucca (Italy).
After an initial approach to self-taught painting, hse decided to perfect her training by enrolling in the evening course at the Art School of Lucca where she graduated with honors in 2006. The following year, together with some high school classmates, she was a founding member of "Kreativa D'Arte e Dintorni", non-profit association for the promotion of artistic disciplines (painting, theater, photography, graphic art, goldsmith's art) and becomes professor of painting for the same association. Decided to continue her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence where she graduated in 2009 (BFA) and in 2015 (MFA) both with honors.
Always fascinated by the theme of the city, after a research that has been characterized for years in the reproduction of landscapes with storms and lightening, now the work of Federica pay homage to the metropolis, especially New York, seen as a daily source of entertainment, between geometric rigor, mirrored surfaces, neon signs and chaos. In recent years, thanks also to the inputs received during the academic training, her path has combined the two main themes - storms and urban landscape - analyzing the parallels between the city wounded by the violent atmospheric event and instead revived in its everyday appearance.

" [...] The lightning or the aerial perspectives of the overseas cities, place the artist with his easel directly in the ether, as if she was looking and painting from the sky. This matrix unites different paintings and indicates a listening personality ready to perceive the events, be they natural or personal, capable of decanting them, stripping them of the most tragic and painful aspects in order to return them to the observer in their scenic aspect. This feature, which can remain unnoticed, is instead of considerable importance because, unbeknownst to the artist himself, she places her pictorial work in a "modus pingenti" typical of many painters of all ages, placing it rightfully among those who do the painting . From Pompeii to Posillipo, from the Alps to Paestum etc. all the artists, and it is what often contributed to make them such, they have ventured with the "views". [...] Aldo Aytano

"... Federica Filippelli presents a cycle born after her trip to the US, highlights the shock caused by the encounter with the sensations of the immense spaces of the American continent and the controlled order of the Tuscan landscape marked by the evolution of history and harmony. These are terms of comparison Lucca and the glare of the lights of the metropolis, the rectangular peaks of the skyscrapers and the soft ellipse of Piazza Anfiteatro; the two memories overlap, the experiences are mixed, while a strange light contaminates both landscapes.
