About this artwork

By observing many weathered surfaces of rocks and old buildings, I use this pentaptych to explore the relationship between human being and mother nature. Contrast to traditional oil painting method, by referencing many weathered surfaces from pictures and documentary, I created these self-portraits by mainly mixing oil paint with rich turpentine and scratching the layers of colours with woods for resulting more spontaneous and expected outcome. Each panel of work from this pentaptych is 74cm(H) x 58cm(W).
