Carlos Granela was brought into this world on July 22nd of 1968 in Havana, Cuba. He moved to the United States with his mother just before the age of three. Living in the Bronx, New York, he started to develop his artistic abilities at an early age during the 3rd and 4th grade. Carlos would sell to his fellow classmates, drawings of Star Wars characters for as much as 25 cents each. He was well recognized for his artistic talent throughout his early education and often singled out to create art pieces for his classrooms, class mates and school functions.
During his high school years in Union City, New Jersey, he exhibited his art in several locations throughout the city. At this point is where he started to really show his love, talent and appreciation for art, and was well recognized as a young talented artist with a future, was voted best school artist upon graduation and chosen to design the school year book.
Carlos and his mother moved to Miami in 1990, where they currently reside. He wanted to get more involved with his art and the desire to challenge and expand his artistic abilities, so he enrolled at International Fine Arts College, Miami in August of 1990. He graduated at the top of his class with an Associated of Arts degree in Commercial Art. During this time, he fine-tuned his artistic abilities and learned how to use an airbrush, his favorite tool, at the time. He learned how to master this tool so well early on, that he eventually began teaching others on how to use it, as well. He later combined his love of fine art with the use of the airbrush to seamlessly integrate them.
In the mid 90's Carlos opened Momo's Gallery Caffe' in Coral Gables. This exciting venture was a combination of an art gallery with a gourmet coffee shop. The first of its kind in Coral Gables, Fl. This was the perfect place to exhibit his latest works of art. He also accepted art from other local emerging artists to give them an opportunity to be seen and have the exposure every artist desires. “I wanted to share my space with other emerging local artists, so they too, would have a place to express their creativity and passion and gain exposure.”
“My art depicts the exciting colorful world of the Caribbean, the Latin culture and the wonderful world of color of various cultures, as well.” “My native country of Cuba is surrounded by extraordinary tropical colors, flavors, scents and scenery, as well as traditions. “My work joins the joyful variety of color with different scenarios of life. The explosion and burst of colors unite the sensations of joy, peace and happiness into any situation”.
Having worked briefly in the mid 90’s with Romero Britto, gave him the appreciation and structure of color, in magnificent presentations.
He is a very humble, down to earth, and a simple person with a great attitude for life. He depicts his love and passion for life in his art through emotions, bold colors, familiar topics and fine craftsmanship.
"Evolution is inevitable, I just want to be a part of a conscious society that is more involved in sharing and creating love through colors and visuals collectively, than destroying it individually."
